The Senator representing Okigwe Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Patrick Ndubueze, FNSE, recently embarked on a pre-inspection tour of the site for the Federal University of Okigwe, located in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State.
The Senator, accompanied by His Royal Majesty Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanweh, the Obi Gburugburu of Igbo Land and Traditional Ruler of Isiama Autonomous Community, was warmly received by the Chairman of Onuimo Local Government Area, Dr. Emeka Obi, and some local government officials who guided the delegation to the site of the new university.
After touring the site, Senator Ndubueze expressed satisfaction with ongoing pre-construction work, which he described as essential groundwork for the smooth launch of heavy construction activities that would soon take place. He emphasized that the necessary groundwork included the implementation of an architectural master plan designed to boost the aesthetic looks of the University environment which aligns with the standards set by the regulatory bodies, National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Senator explained that the pre-inspection tour was part of a routine exercise to monitor the progress of the project, ensuring the timely commencement of both the construction and academic phases. This inspection is part of preparations for the eventual flag-off of the University, which will not only feature substantial construction works but structures to house the various facilities in the University.
A key infrastructure project also in the pipeline is the Okigwe Zonal Electrical Substation, which will provide a dedicated power line to the University, ensuring a reliable and consistent energy supply to support both its administrative functions and academic activities.
Senator Ndubueze took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, GSSRS, for his steadfast support and commitment to creating an enabling environment for the successful establishment of the Federal University of Okigwe.
