The Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Dist. Senator Dr. Hope Uzodimma, has inaugurated a Recovery and Restoration Committee for communities negatively impacted by insecurity in Okigwe, Onuimo, and Ehime Mbano Local Government Areas.
The committee is chaired by the Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr. Samuel C. Kanu Uche. Also appointed as a member is the Senator representing Okigwe Senatorial Zone at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly, Dist. Senator Patrick Ndubueze, FNSE, alongside other eminent leaders from the zone.
Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Uzodimma stated that with the successful restoration of relative peace and security in the Okigwe axis, the state government is now focused on rebuilding and rehabilitating communities that suffered losses during the period of unrest.
“Having successfully addressed the insecurity that once plagued the Okigwe axis, it is now imperative to move decisively toward the recovery and restoration of communities that were badly affected. To this end, I have inaugurated a Fact-Finding and Implementation Committee for the rehabilitation of impacted communities across Okigwe, Onuimo, and Ehime Mbano Local Government Areas,” the governor said.
Governor Uzodimma explained that the committee’s mandate is to assess the extent of damage in the affected communities and recommend practical and implementable measures for a comprehensive rehabilitation programme. He urged residents of the affected areas to cooperate fully with the committee by providing accurate and timely information to ensure effective outcomes.
“The Government remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and will never relent in ensuring the safety and well-being of all our people,” the governor added.
The governor had earlier hinted at the formation of the committee during a courtesy visit by a high-powered delegation from Okigwe Zone to the Government House, Owerri, where he requested that respected leaders from the zone be nominated to drive the recovery process.
Among those inaugurated as members of the committee are the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, and the Chairman of the Okigwe Zone Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Eze Acho Ndukwe, among others.
The inauguration of the committee marks a significant step by the Imo State Government toward healing, rebuilding, and restoring normalcy to communities affected by insecurity in the Okigwe Senatorial Zone.
