The 7th Assembly of the Ideato South Local Government Council, during its extraordinary sitting of Wednesday, 29th October 2025, elected a new leadership to pilot the affairs of the Council.
In the new leadership structure, Rt. Hon. Emeka Orioha, former Chief Whip and Councillor, Obioha Ward, emerged as the Leader of the Council; Rt. Hon. Ikebundu Johnbosco, Councillor, Umuakam/Umuago Ward, retained his position as Deputy Leader; Hon. Lady Nnadi Nora, Isiekenesi Ward 2, was elected Majority Leader while Hon. Anumege Onyedikachi of Amanator/Umueshi Ward emerged as the Chief Whip.
This was diacloaed by Hon. Anumege Onyedikachi, the new Chief Whip and Chairman, Committee on Information of the 7th Assembly of the Ideato South Legislative Council.
During the sitting, the House resolved to suspend the former Leader, Rt. Hon. Okechukwu Anusionwu, Ogboko Ward 1, the former Majority Leader, Hon. Enyiuche Chibuike, Umuobom Ward, and Hon. Donatus Ebere, Dikenafai Ward, pending their appearance and outcome of the disciplinary committee.
The Assembly further directed that the suspended councillors be denied access to the Council Headquarters and the Legislative Chamber pending further notice.
The decision of the House followed findings that the affected councillors were involved in activities that brought the Legislative Council into disrepute and were capable of breaching public peace.
Accordinh to the Chief Whip, the suspended councillors were accused of financial embezzlement, fraud, anti-party activities, and illegally convening the House in an unconstitutional manner, actions considered detrimental to the unity, stability, and integrity of the Council and the constituted authorities of the Local Government and the State.
Upon assumption of office, the new Leader, Rt. Hon. Emeka Orioha announced the dissolution of all standing committees, except the Committee on Information, which he reconstituted under the chairmanship of the new Chief Whip, Hon. Anumege Onyedikachi.
The Executive Chairman of Ideato South Local Government Area, Hon. Okwara Okechukwu Kenneth received the new leadership in his office and commended their emergence.
He expressed his delight and readiness to collaborate harmoniously with the new leadership to ensure peace, stability, and continuous development across the local government.
