STOP TRIVIALIZING THE DIGNITY OF ONUIMO LGA: ONUIMO DESERVES RESPECT, DEVELOPMENT, AND EQUITY — NOT OCCASIONAL HANDOUTS

The sensibility, dignity, and good conscience of the people of Onuimo Local Government Area must no longer be taken for granted or reduced to token gestures disguised as representation. Governance is not charity, and leadership is not measured by infrequent visits accompanied by symbolic handouts.

Leadership goes beyond the distribution of three cups of rice or ₦5,000 to a few selected individuals. Such acts neither demonstrate empathy nor replace effective and purposeful representation. The people of Onuimo are enlightened, resilient, and politically conscious. They deserve respect, sustainable development, equity, and meaningful inclusion — not occasional handouts.

Over the years, Onuimo LGA has experienced a glaring absence of impactful federal presence. Meaningful representation has remained elusive. The last known visit of the current representative of Okigwe North Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mariam Onuoha, to Onuimo LGA was reportedly in January 2025. From then until December, the people lived without these symbolic gestures, proving conclusively that Onuimo does not depend on handouts for survival.

What the people demand is representation that is visible, accessible, vocal, and effective — especially during periods of hardship. Unfortunately, the record so far falls far below expectation. Onuimo LGA has suffered severe marginalization under the present arrangement. During critical moments of socio-economic challenges, when advocacy, intervention, and federal engagement were most needed, Onuimo was largely absent from the conversation.

True representation is defined by presence, responsiveness, and tangible results. These essential elements have been noticeably lacking, leaving the people with no choice but to speak up and demand a new direction rooted in justice and fairness.

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the message from concerned citizens of Onuimo LGA is clear: Project Onuimo 2027 for the Okigwe North Federal House of Representatives is a matter of equity and fairness. The principle of justice demands that Onuimo be given the opportunity to produce the next representative in the spirit of balance and inclusion within Okigwe North.

The most honorable and statesmanlike path available to the current representative, should she seek to restore public confidence, is to openly and genuinely support Project Onuimo 2027. This call is not borne out of hostility but of fairness, maturity, and collective progress. Onuimo has contributed significantly to the development and unity of Okigwe North and deserves reciprocal respect.

No amount of symbolic gifts can override the collective will of a determined and politically conscious people. The era of token gestures is over. The time for purposeful, people-centered representation has come.
