The Imo State Ministry of Industry, Mines and Solid Minerals, in partnership with Royal Shift Academy, have organized a one-day digital skills acquisition programme aimed at empowering civil servants, entrepreneurs, and youths from diverse backgrounds with relevant technological knowledge on AI.
The initiative, endorsed by the ministry, was designed to train about 500 participants, equipping them with practical skills in emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The training, held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Imo State Secretariat in Owerri, focused on the application of AI tools to enhance workplace efficiency, boost income generation, and improve overall livelihoods.
Participants received hands-on training in various digital competencies, including cinematic AI content creation, business automation through landing pages, marketing video production, prompt engineering, online platform development, digital storytelling using African folktales, and the use of automation workflows to drive business growth.
In his address, the Commissioner for Industry, Mines and Solid Minerals, Barr. Jerry Egemba, stated that the initiative reflects the commitment of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration to equipping residents with relevant digital skills needed in today’s global economy.
He emphasized that the programme is aimed at fostering self-reliance and ensuring that citizens remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Egemba further noted that the training would not only benefit individuals but also strengthen the operational capacity of ministry staff. According to him, the acquired skills will enhance efficiency in key areas such as mining regulation, royalty tracking, internally generated revenue (IGR) optimization, record management, and investor relations.
He urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity and contribute meaningfully to government-driven development initiatives.
Speaking during the training session, facilitator Prince Ola Tunji encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained towards achieving financial independence.
He commended the impressive turnout and positive engagement of attendees, describing it as a reflection of the growing interest in digital empowerment among Imo residents.
He also lauded the state government for prioritizing skill acquisition programmes and advised beneficiaries to translate their learning into productive and profitable ventures.
Another resource person, Mr. Chidiebere Obemi, highlighted the growing importance of AI in today’s global economy. He stressed that continuous learning and adaptability are crucial for individuals and businesses seeking to remain competitive.
Participants who spoke after the training described the programme as impactful and enriching.
Emmanuel Njoku-Ocha, Munachimso Faith, and Stella Nwogu expressed appreciation to the organizers for the opportunity and pledged to apply the knowledge gained through consistent practice and innovation.
