Frontline APC aspirant for the Imo North Federal House of Representatives seat in the 2027 National Assembly elections, Arc. Mrs. Amaka Mgbobu-Onu, has lauded the launch of the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) in Imo State, describing the initiative as a landmark achievement that will transform education through digital technology and expand access to quality learning opportunities.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the official launch of the platform on June 11, 2026, in Owerri, Mrs. Mgbobu-Onu, who represents Okigwe Zone (Imo North) on the Board of the Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB), said the initiative demonstrates the Imo State Government's unwavering commitment to modernizing education and equipping learners with the digital skills required to succeed in the 21st century.
She explained that the programme is being implemented by the Imo State Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in collaboration with IMSUBEB, under the leadership of its Chairman, Hon. Chidiebere Egboh, with technical and institutional support from UNICEF, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the Federal Ministry of Education, Swintech, Airtel, and other stakeholders at the state, local government, and community levels.
According to Mrs. Mgbobu-Onu, the Nigeria Learning Passport represents a significant investment in the future of Imo's children by providing digital learning resources, laptops, internet connectivity, data access, and other educational tools that will complement classroom instruction and promote self-paced learning.
She commended the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, for providing the enabling environment for educational reforms and digital innovation, noting that the initiative would help bridge the digital divide, improve learning outcomes, and create equal educational opportunities for pupils and students across the state.
Mrs. Mgbobu-Onu also praised the collective efforts of development partners and education stakeholders whose collaboration made the project possible, emphasizing that strong public-private partnerships remain essential to building a more resilient and technology-driven education system in Nigeria.
She noted that digital education is no longer optional but a necessity in today's global knowledge economy, stressing that platforms such as the Nigeria Learning Passport will empower learners to acquire relevant digital competencies while enhancing the overall quality of teaching and learning.
The former APC House of Representatives hopeful therefore called on parents, teachers, school administrators, and students to embrace the platform and take full advantage of the opportunities it offers, expressing confidence that the programme would make a lasting impact on the education sector in Imo State.
Mrs. Mgbobu-Onu further reaffirmed her commitment, alongside the Board of IMSUBEB, to supporting government policies and initiatives that promote quality education, youth development, innovation, and digital inclusion, describing education as one of the strongest pillars for sustainable national development.
She disclosed that the successful implementation of the digital learning programme would be complemented by extensive capacity-building and training for the thousands of newly recruited teachers in Imo State, ensuring they are adequately equipped to effectively integrate digital learning tools into classroom teaching and maximize the benefits of the Nigeria Learning Passport initiative.
