The Okigwe Zone representative on the Council of the Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB), Arc. Mrs. Amaka Mgbobu-Onu, has assured Imo residents that the ongoing rehabilitation and renovation of public schools across the state are at an advanced stage and nearing completion.
She made this known while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the launch of the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Responding to concerns raised by some residents over the condition of educational infrastructure in the state, Arc. Mgbobu-Onu dismissed claims that the government was neglecting the education sector. She maintained that the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma remains committed to providing a conducive learning environment for pupils and students across the state.
According to her, the state government, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and IMSUBEB, is undertaking the rehabilitation and renovation of hundreds of primary, secondary, and technical schools across the 27 local government areas of Imo State.
This is as she noted that education infrastructure in Imo State is receiving major boost. Okigwe zone going by her report is a major beneficiary and going by the records listed new school buildings and many more are undergoing renovation in several communities across the 6 local government areas of Okigwe zone.
She emphasized that work on these projects is progressing steadily and reflects the government's commitment to improving educational infrastructure throughout the state.
Arc. Mgbobu-Onu also commended the Honourable Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, Prof. B. T. O. Ikegwuoha, and the Chairman of IMSUBEB, Hon. Chief Chidiebere Egboh, for their dedication to the successful implementation of the projects.
She concluded by expressing appreciation to Governor Hope Uzodimma for approving the rehabilitation and renovation of schools, describing the intervention as a significant investment in the future of education and the development of Imo State.
