TESTED, TRUSTED: ONUIMO TRADITIONAL RULERS ENDORSE HON. CHIEF JAMES UBA ESILE FOR HIGHER POLITICAL RESPONSIBILITY AHEAD OF 2027

There is an English saying that: “the reward for a job well done is more work.” In Igbo traditional parlance, a man who kills a lion with his bare hands earns the title “Ogbuagu”—a mark of uncommon courage and exceptional achievement. This metaphor aptly captures the growing public perception of the lawmaker representing Onuimo State Constituency at the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief James Uba Esile, fondly known as “Fresh Air.”

Hon. Esile’s emergence as a legislator did not come as a surprise to many political observers who have closely followed his political journey and understanding of the complexities of Imo State politics.

Since assuming office, the Umucheke-Okwe–born lawmaker has distinguished himself through effective legislative representation, impactful oversight functions, and a people-centred approach to governance. From the onset of his tenure, Hon. Esile activated a legislative agenda aligned with the development vision of the Imo State Governor, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Dr. Hope Uzodimma, CON. Central to this agenda has been the pursuit of policies and programmes that directly improve the welfare of his constituents.

One notable intervention is his strong support for the ImoCare Health Insurance Programme, under which over 200 Onuimo indigenes were enrolled at a subsidized rate of ₦15,000 per person. This initiative underscores his belief that a healthy population is the foundation of a prosperous society. The programme provides access to quality healthcare for various medical conditions, excluding cancer cases, and continues to expand to accommodate more beneficiaries.

In the agricultural sector, Hon. Esile has demonstrated firm commitment by supporting the Uzodimma administration’s policies on food production, livestock development, and agricultural subsidies, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

Education has also received significant attention. Through sponsorship and support programmes, the lawmaker has assisted thousands of students with fees for WAEC, JAMB, and Post-UTME examinations, while also facilitating admissions into tertiary institutions. These efforts have eased the financial burden on parents and enhanced educational access for youths across Onuimo.

Youth empowerment remains a cornerstone of his representation. Over 200 youths have been enrolled in Heavy Duty Truck Driving Skills training, while more than 100 youths from each local government are undergoing community security and protection training courtesy of the Imo State governor, His Excellency, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma with morale and financial support to the vigilante operatives in camp from Hon. Esile.

In addition, Hon. Esile sponsored a major football tournament with a cash reward of ₦10 million, promoting youth engagement, unity, and crime prevention.

Economically, Hon. Esile has sponsored a bill—currently awaiting the Governor’s assent—for the reconstruction of an Imo Film Village, Umucheke-okwe in Onuimo LGA. The project is targeted to attract an estimated $5 million in direct investment, an economic booster, and employment hub captured in the 2026 budget and to be built by His Excellency, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma which falls along his vision for job creation, hospitality and tourism  development. This world-class project is expected to have multimedia studio, film academy, shopping malls, resort centre, games village, outdoor games and other commercial facilities.

The initiative is expected to complement existing federal projects in the area, including the Federal University of Okigwe, Umunna campus, and the Okigwe electricity substation.

Additionally, several constituency projects approved by Governor Uzodimma—such as the renovation of community health centres, construction of markets, and provision of boreholes—part of forms Hon. Esile's constituency projects as approved by the governor have further solidified his reputation as a responsive and effective representative.

It is against this backdrop of measurable achievements that traditional rulers and royal fathers from Onuimo recently convened to review Hon. Esile’s legislative performance. During the meeting, they poured libations and collectively urged him to consider seeking higher political responsibility ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing his representation as unprecedented in the constituency’s history.

The endorsement came during a briefing session where Hon. Esile updated the royal fathers on his legislative activities and future plans.
