The Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Onuimo Local Government Area (LGA) were formally inaugurated on February 19, 2026, at the council headquarters, with dignitaries and party stakeholders from across Imo State in attendance.
The State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, an initiative aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, led the event. The Onuimo chapter is headed by Hon. Dr. Emeka Obi, who, alongside other executive members, was mandated to promote and properly communicate the policies and programmes of the President at the grassroots level.
Speaking at the event, Rt. Hon. Goodluck Nanah Opiah emphasized that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors are advocacy agents tasked with sensitizing citizens on the achievements and policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He clarified that the body is not a political campaign organization but a platform to disseminate information about government initiatives. Opiah outlined the leadership structure of the initiative, noting that Governor Hope Uzodimma serves as Director-General, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim is the South-East Zonal Coordinator, while he (Opiah) serves as the Imo State Coordinator.
Addressing national economic reforms, Opiah reiterated that the removal of fuel subsidy, though painful, was a bold and necessary decision taken for the long-term economic benefit of the country.
He argued that previous administrations had contemplated similar action but lacked the courage to implement it. He cited former Governor Ikedi Ohakim’s Clean and Green initiative as an example of policy decisions that initially met resistance, as results of the demolition of shops but which were intended for public good.
He also referenced the Electricity Act signed into law by President Tinubu, which he said enabled Governor Uzodimma to implement the “Light Up Imo” project.
According to him, road infrastructure development and reforms in the education sector are among the administration’s key achievements.
Opiah further mentioned the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support students’ academic pursuits, expressing concern over the reportedly low enrollment from the South-East compared to other regions.
The Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District, Engr. Patrick Ndubueze, congratulated the newly inaugurated ambassadors and commended Governor Hope Uzodimma’s developmental strides.
He described the governor as a “roadmaster” whose projects and recognitions are visible across the state as well as the numerous awards given to the governor.
Ndubueze stated that the governor has assured stakeholders of renewed focus on the Okigwe Zone, including road projects, power infrastructure improvements through ongoing reconstruction at base stations, educational development, and efforts to tackle insecurity.
He urged party loyalists of Onuimo and the general public from Okigwe Zone to continue supporting the governor’s administration.
The member representing Onuimo State Constituency, Hon. James Esile, popularly known as “Fresh-Air,” expressed appreciation for the inauguration and reaffirmed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He stated that grassroots politicians in Onuimo are committed to mobilizing support for the President and the party. Esile also called for unity among party members, urging those with grievances to reconcile for the collective success of the APC.
He expressed confidence in the executive members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, led by Rt. Hon. Goodluck Nanah Opiah, describing him as a seasoned leader.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Onuimo LGA and newly inaugurated Onuimo Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Hon. Dr. Emeka Obi, highlighted the importance of the initiative in deepening grassroots awareness of government programmes.
He commended the state leadership of the initiative under Rt. Hon. Goodluck Nanah Opiah and pledged the commitment of the Onuimo chapter to effectively carry out its mandate.
The chairman assured party leaders and supporters of his readiness, alongside his executive members, to work towards strengthening the initiative and mobilizing support for both President Tinubu and the APC.
Other speakers at the event like Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onouha, member representing Okigwe North federal Constituency echoed similar sentiments, reaffirming their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and the APC.
The ceremony concluded with a group photograph featuring the leadership of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, political office holders, and some party stakeholders.
Some of the notable leaders present at the occasion are High Chief John Enyiogasi (Ok2000), Rt. Hon. Maxwell Duru, HRH Eze C. Eze, High Chief Charles Ijezie, (Okemiri), Hon. Major Emenike, Rt. Hon.
